Stone Mountain, Georgia is home to a quartz monzonite dome monadnock – a small mountain that rises abruptly from the surrounding plain. The Mountain’s north face boasts of the largest rock relief in the world! The relief is a Confederate Memorial Carving immortalizing Conferederate leaders Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee, and Jefferson Davis, with their favorite horses.
Stone Mountain Park is located in Atlanta, and is a popular attraction. Activities range from exploring the Museum, the Summit Skyride, a Scenic Railroad, and a laser light show!
On September 17, Georgia PTA, in partnership with Walk Georgia, and the Georgia Department of Public Health’s Georgia SHAPE, is hosting a FREE fun family and friends day at Stone Mountain! The event is from 9 am to 2 pm and you can hike the mountain and explore the Educational Annex. There are also going to be fun activities for kids at the Environmental Center! Parking is free as well! Just make sure to use the Park West Gate entrance.
