Acworth in Cobb County is home to Red Top Mountain State Park. Located on the 12,000-acre Lake Allatoona, this beautiful park is a great place to cool off during the summer.
The park is named for its red soil that’s high in iron ore, and was once a popular mining area. Due to it’s proximity to Atlanta, the park also played an important role in the American Civil War – during the 1864 Atlanta Campaign, the Battle of Allatoona Pass was fought very close to it.
With the July 4th weekend coming up, Red Top is the perfect getaway – from 12 pm to 2 pm, the park will host an Ultimate Frisbee on the Lawn! Everyone’s welcome – beginners to experts. Just make sure you wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.
All year round, Red Top provides activities for swimmers, water skiers, and fishing enthusiasts. The sand swimming beach is ideal for parties or just to relax.
