Saturday, June 3 marks National Trails Day. Many state parks are offering a variety of hikes, such as:

National Trails Day Hike        9 – 11 AM

Chattahoochee Bend State Park – Newnan, GA

This 3-mile hike will go around the beaver ponds and along the Chattahoochee River with opportunities to see the resident beavers or herons. All ages welcome. $5 plus $5 parking. 770-254-7271.


Guided Horseback Ride – National Trails Day 10 AM to 12 PM

Cloudland Canyon State Park – Rising Fawn, GA

Bring your horse and explore the Cloudland Connector Trial with a knowledgeable guide. Meet at the State Park Trailhead. Directions available in the park Visitor’s Center. Rider must bring their own horses. $5 parking. 706-657-4050.


National Trails Day Night Hike  9 PM to 9:45 PM

Elijah Clark State Park – Lincolnton, GA

Explore the sounds and smells of the night. You may even hear an owl hoot or a coyote’s howl. Bring a flashlight. $5 parking. 706-359-3458.


National Trails Day Hike  10 AM to 12 PM

Etowah Indian Mounds Historic Site – Cartersville, GA

Hike Etowah Mounds’ Interpretive Trail to the river, learning about site history and various wildlife. Then hike back to the museum along our River Walk Nature Trail discussing native flora. $2 – $6. 770-387-3747.


Paws on the Falls – National Trails Day 10 AM to 11 AM

High Falls State Park – Jackson, GA

Grab your leash and bring your dog out to walk with new friends on the High Falls Trail. We’ll have a surprise for each dog that attends. $5 per dog. $5 parking. 478-993-3053.


Geology Hike – National Trails Day 11 AM to 12:30 PM

Providence Canyon Outdoor Recreation Area – Lumpkin, GA

Providence Canyon invites the public to join us as we take a hike through the canyons and learn about the geological formations and why the canyons are here! $5 plus $5 parking. 229-838-4706.


National Trails Day Nature Hike 9 AM

Reynolds Mansion on Sapelo Island – Darien, GA

Day visitors may visit beautiful Sapelo Island for a nature hike. Visit the maritime forest, salt marsh and dune habitats, and finish on Sapelo’s pristine Nanny Goat beach. Hike is approximately 2.5 miles over boardwalk, trail and beach. Click for ferry information. $10. Call to register 912-485-2299.
