For this outdoors feature we’ll visit Mistletoe State Park right outside of Augusta. This state park has two of my favorite outdoor amenities: hiking trails and sandy beaches. After a rigorous hike through the woods, you can relax on the beach and take in the spectacular sight of Clarks Hill Lake. This lake spans 71,100 acres, and is the perfect spot for fishing, swimming, boating, and canoeing. Campgrounds are situated along the lake’s peninsula, offering a chance to view breathtaking sunrises and sunsets as the light reflects off the lake’s water. An interesting fact about this lake is that it has two names! The part of the lake that is in North Carolina is called Lake Strom Thurmond, while the part that is in Georgia is called Clarks Hill!
Visitors to Mistletoe State Park will also have an opportunity to see the park’s wildlife. The park is hosting their upcoming Animals of Mistletoe event on May 30th. Park-goers will get the chance to hang out with snakes and furry friends, while also observing the craftsmanship of mounted animals. This event is appropriate for all ages, and is a good chance to see the kinds of animals that have made Mistletoe State Park their home. This would be a great trip for family and friends who are interested in nature.
