Go: George T. Bagby State Park

Located in southwest Georgia on the shores of Lake Walter F. George (also known as Lake Eufaula), this resort park features a 60-room lodge, conference center and cottages.

You can water ski, canoe, boat or fish from the marina, or enjoy activities like tennis, hiking, bike riding, golf and volleyball. The swimming pool is only available to lodge and cottage guests, but the other activities can be enjoyed by anyone. Bikes and canoes can be rented on-site. You can hike two nature trails featuring pine and oak forests and a variety of wetlands. The Lake Loop trail is one mile long while the Chattahoochee Trail is two miles.

The Pilot House Grill Restaurant provides a courtesy dock for boaters who want to enjoy meals in the park, and the conference center is available for weddings, reunions, meetings and retreats. The 18-hole Meadow Links Golf Course features rolling hills and beautiful woodland vistas. In 1998, Golf Digest ranked it as one of the best affordable public courses in the nation.

The park is located south of Columbus, Ga., on the Georgia-Alabama line just 3.5 miles north of Fort Gaines, Ga., off GA Hwy. 39.
