We interviewed Linda Fox, dean of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences, to find out how she stays fit.
What do you do to stay fit?
Yoga almost every morning and then walking whenever possible. My husband Wayne and I, along with our dog Star, hike in the woods at a good speed and with purpose! I love the up and down of hills. Typically we hike between 7 and 8 miles at a time, and during the summer plan for longer hikes in the mountains. I want to find more days on the sandy beaches in Georgia where long walks are especially delightful.
What do you enjoy most about exercising?
I most enjoy exercising outdoors! I prefer the sights and sounds of nature all around me when I hike, bike, or just walk around campus. I prefer walking with others, and that includes our dog!
What motivates you to stay healthy?
I am motivated to stay healthy because I feel I can be more productive — I sleep better and feel more energized when I don’t sacrifice my exercise routines.
How do you make time for exercise?
I plan the early morning for exercise. This means I do the other routine things the night before, like pack my lunch or plan what to wear. I make space for the exercise clothes and shoes a priority and do not hide them in a cubby or hard to reach space. When I travel I take along my walking shoes and clothes!
