There are two things most people know about Bo Ryles: He is passionate about the Georgia 4-H program, and he loves to run. Although the longtime State 4-H Leader is retired, he makes sure to stay active. We hope his comments inspire you to make exercise a part of your daily routine.
What motivates you to stay healthy?
In the past it has simply been a mater of personal pride and a feeling of strong energy resulting from exercise. Now, a challenge with cancer that led to surgery revealed that being healthy is the only way to be prepared to fight serious illness if it emerges. My doctors at the Mayo Clinic said my physical condition gave me incredible advantages as we entered into cancer treatment.
What do you enjoy most about exercising?
A complete purging of stress and sense of euphoria.
What do you do to stay fit?
I run a lot (averaging 185 races a year). I typically run six days a week. I try to eat smart when I’m I training, and I’m always in training.
How do you make time for exercise?
It’s simple: If I run in the morning, I can take the evening off. If I don’t run in the morning, I run in the evening. I consider running like brushing my teeth, saying my prayers and drinking coffee — it’s going to happen — it’s not optional!
