The latest 7-day QPF map shows that rainfall across the state should be lighter this week and next, although there will be periods of scattered rain. The driest part of next week will be today through Tuesday, with showers returning to northern GA overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning. Those showers will spread south later in the week and we can expect some rain through the weekend. Another dry period looks like it will start the following week for a couple of days before rain returns again. I hope that most of you were not too affected by Hurricane Debby. There was quite a gradient of rainfall across the state, with areas near Statesboro receiving up to 15 inches of rain and other parts of the state including much of the northwest receiving almost none. The map of Debby’s rainfall below is through Thursday morning so does not include some of the late showers that fell as Debby made its second landfall in South Carolina and moved north.
As of Saturday morning there is one area of disturbed weather in the tropics, currently called Investigation 98L. This will likely develop into a named storm in the next week but nearly all the models indicate that it will turn north and stay away from land, so I don’t consider it something to worry about. We can expect to see more frequent tropical storms later this month and into September but it will take a while before we are likely to see much more direct influence.
