The UGA Extension 2019 Summer Muscadine Conference will take place on Tuesday, July 9th in Athens, GA.

The physical location of the conference will be at the South Milledge Greenhouse Complex (2500 S Milledge Ave, Athens, GA 30606).

Speakers include UGA specialists and Georgia Muscadine Industry members. There will also be an opportunity to visit the newly planted Carlos and Paulk muscadine research vineyard at UGA’s Durham Horticulture Farm (a 15 minute drive from Milledge Greenhouse Complex Classroom).

Agenda is as follows:

9:30 AM: Registration (coffee and pastries provided with registration cost)

10:00 AM: Crop load management and trends in muscadine cultivar purchases; Greg Ison, Ison’s Nursery

10:30 AM: Reflections on starting, owning, and operating a small muscadine vineyard and farm winery; Deborah and Charles Tillman, Watermelon Creek Vineyard

11:15 AM: Winemaking versatility with muscadines; Simone Bergese, Chateau Elan Winery

12:00 PM: LUNCH (provided with registration cost)

1:00 PM: Winemaking with unconventional muscadine cultivars (e.g. NOT Carlos or Noble); Matt Johnson, Wolf Creek Plantation Vineyards and Winery

1:45 PM: Self-fertile, fresh market muscadine cultivars UGA’s Muscadine Breeding Program, Dr. Patrick Conner, UGA Horticulture Dept.

2:15 PM: Starting a muscadine vineyard – considerations on materials and other important decisions; Cain Hickey, UGA Horticulture Department

3:00 PM: Depart for UGA’s Durham Horticulture Farm to walk Carlos and Paulk research vineyard.
