Growers need to remember the quality of this seed may not be as good as in previous years. Therefore, growers need to be mindful of the weather before planting.
Planting early in subpar conditions will only put more stress on the seed. The more stress we put on the seed the higher the risk for poor germination and emergence.
I have talked with several of you regarding planting early this past week. Like I mentioned, I would try to hold your growers off until Easter. At that time, I would look at the 14 Day forecast as see if there are any predicted days of cold weather that would cause soil temps to go below 68 degrees. I would not plant unless I was confident there are no more cold snaps predicted.
