Peanut harvest is going very well from the feedback I have been getting. I would like to make a few comments on maturity and harvest. While checking maturity on the board, peanuts planted from April to the first 3-4 days of may were mature at 137-145 DAP (Days after planting). Peanuts from May 5 and on seemed to slow down and most of these fields were pushing 150 DAP. The Wilcox County agent told me this yesterday not knowing that I had observed it as well. With this being said, I think it is extremely important to keep checking crops on the board if you are interested in maximizing yields. (I think we all want to do that). Also, it is very important to check stem strength and condition of the vine. I have seen some severe leaf spot this year in multiple places. If you are not sure if your fields have leaf spot or not, one of the best places to check is your field log. I have seen growers plant varieties in the past and not realize they were more susceptible to leaf spot than the standard GA-06G. Stem strength can decline greatly if defoliation from leaf spot is severe.
