Now, this is the first time that scientist has used this new method but it predicts an 80% chance of an El Ni\u00f1o occurrence in 2020. Why do I care about El Ni\u00f1o weather patterns? To the south, an El Ni\u00f1o means a calmer Atlantic hurricane season, a wetter and cooler winter. El Ni\u00f1o effects are felt mostly in the fall\/winter. This has implications for the following growing season because we need winter rain to build up our soil moisture leading into April and the start of the planting season.
