This is a relatively new pest, and we are currently working on control measures. Until we obtain more reliable data, the best options we have currently are Orthene (1/2 lb) or Bidrin (6 oz). Those have had the best mortality on jassids so far; I’ve had better luck with Bidrin. Assail (2 oz), Centric (2 oz), and Venom (3 oz) have shown some promise; Bifenthrin has not. The threshold is 3 nymphs per leaf, and symptoms are present. Sample 1 leaf per acre or a minimum of 25 leaves, whichever is greater. Where did it come from? I’m not sure, but here is what I do know. It is native to the Indian subcontinent. It was first discovered in Puerto Rico in 2023 and later in Florida in 2025. Females lay eggs in the plant tissue. Eggs hatch in 3-4 days, Nymphs for 8-11 days, and Adults can live 2-4+ weeks. A generation occurs approximately every 2 weeks. They are similar to whiteflies. The symptoms below are what I’ve observed most frequently.

Peanut: We are starting peanut maturity checks. Regan or I will be here to look at them for you. If we are not out back, just come through the back door and get one of us.
