Sorry, this one took a bit longer to find time to type up this week.

Cotton: It was cool early in the week, but warmed up a little bit at the end of the week. By Saturday, it will begin to cool back down as we look to next week. There is a slight chance of rain next week, so keep that in mind as you defoliate. Dropp is the primary concern because it usually requires a 24-hour rain-free period.

  • Thidiazuron – 4 oz/acre – lots of young growth out there and need a little higher rate with cool temps.
  • Folex/Def – 10 oz/acre – my preferred rate for all situations, but could back down to 8 if spraying Thursday.
  • Ethephon – 42 oz/acre – do it once and do it right.

Peanut: Leaf spot keeps coming up in conversations. Make sure you protect against it; it can defoliate and ruin a good crop quickly. Lots of late-season spotted wilt are crashing plants. Samples are still running, for the most part, in the mid-140s for 06s and Tift NVs. 12Ys are mid-150s, but we can push those if the vines will let us. I will be out of town most of next week, so if you need samples run, please get them in on Monday or Tuesday.

Weather: Tropical Storm Gabrielle should turn and move back out into the Atlantic. There is a 20% chance of a system developing right behind Gabrielle within the next week.
