I’ve received some calls this week about regrowth in cotton. Remember to go high rate of Dropp (4oz), this will help inhibit regrowth. I would use at least 20 GPA, that way you can get the defoliant blasted down into the plant which is where most of the regrowth is occurring. Peanut grades seem to be doing really well. Our cotton variety trial has been defoliated and is looking pretty good for a dryland trial. The yield data will be interesting to see because we have lots of good looking varieties out there. Most of you know that we have been interviewing for a Tri-County Vegetable Agent Position. The vegetable agent will serve 3 counties, Colquitt, Tift, and Worth. We made an offer to a candidate and the offer was accepted. The potential start date is November 1st so hopefully, soon I can introduce you to our new vegetable agent.
If you see Dr. Bob Kemerait around, wish him congratulations. He is the recipient of the prestigious DW Brooks Award. This award goes to an individual whose contributions to agriculture are respected worldwide. Dr. Kemerait has worked on projects to improve peanut production among small-scale farmers in Guyana, Haiti, and the Philippines. He recently received a Fulbright award to work with faculty and farmers in the northern Philippines. He is also petty dang good about helping us here in Tift County too. Congratulations Bob!
