Its that time again. We’re still not at the office but we have been out and about. The storm got a little rough Monday morning. The tornado in Brookfield was about 1/2 mile north of my parent’s house. We are still on teleworking, meaning that the office is still closed to the public. If you need Scott or me just give us a call or shoot us an email. Here is what we have been seeing.

Corn: Corn is looking pretty good. I’ve seen good stands all around.

Melons: Cantaloupes and Watermelons took a beating in certain areas that had high winds and hail. Even good windbreaks have a hard time stopping 50mph wind. Many of them are starting to run. No pest just yet only a few squash bugs here and there.

Pecans: Surrounding counties have started to see bud-moths in younger trees but I haven’t seen any in Tift County yet. We need to be on the lookout for them. If they get inside the shoots then insecticide won’t touch them and they’ll kill off the shoot. Don’t forget to knock off all those “sucker” shoots below the canopy.

Cotton: Some people have already planted cotton and the rest seem to be chomping at the bit. I have a good post about getting ready for planting cotton.

Peanuts: The new Peanut Rx is available. It is interactive and can be done on your phone, iPad or computer. The paper ones will be available but they haven’t been uploaded to the peanut website as of today, that should change soon.
