I know yall are planting cotton as I’m typing this up but I wanted to remind you about thrips and thrips management. Those little pests can cause a heap of damage if you’re at high risk for them. I hope some of you use the Thrips Predictor Tool.
Cotton thrips treatment:
- In-furrow liquid: up to 21 DAP efficacy
- admire pro
- orthene
- 5 gal/a; it could 3 gal/a for some, check the label
- In-furrow granular: up to 28 DAP efficacy
- AgLogic
- Rule of Thumb-every lb of alicarb= l week of activity
Tips on Thrips:
- Threshold, 2-3 thrips per plant including immatures
- Presence of immatures means preventative control is no longer active
- Foliar spray-Orthene is best
- On the low-risk fields, seed and in-furrow treatment are ok
- On the high-risk fields, needs seed and foliar treatment. We have data that shows it saves average 60-90lbs.
- After 4th leaf no economic damage found
