{"id":812,"date":"2024-08-19T04:11:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-19T08:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/thriving\/?p=812"},"modified":"2024-09-02T09:17:50","modified_gmt":"2024-09-02T13:17:50","slug":"thinking-about-chores","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/thriving\/2024\/08\/thinking-about-chores\/","title":{"rendered":"Thinking About Chores"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Ever since I was a kid, I\u2019ve had (or been given, when I was little) a list of chores that I have to do. &nbsp;I know you\u2019ve got them too.&nbsp; Things like feed the animals, wash the dishes, pick up your tools, fold the laundry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Everybody does chores. We may not always want to, but if we don\u2019t, things get messy or stop working and soon it\u2019s all chaos. Sometimes they can be pleasant (I find folding laundry really relaxing), other times not\u2026but they have to get done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are also some things that we really have to do in order to have a well-functioning life, but that we don\u2019t usually think of as chores. I\u2019m thinking about the things we need to do for <em>ourselves<\/em> to make sure our bodies and minds keep working. Without <em>us<\/em>, the household or the farm can really fall apart and become a mess. So why aren\u2019t these chores as important as the ones we do for everyone and everything else?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What would happen if you put these on your daily chore list:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Drink 8 glasses of water<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stretch for 5 minutes before starting work<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Eat at least a couple of servings of fruits and vegetables<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Do something that makes you smile, even just for a minute<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Make a call or send a text and connect with someone you care about<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Try adding these to your chore list tomorrow, and see how much your body and mind feel like they\u2019re working better.
