Those of you who have been reading my blog know that I lost my parents about 3 months ago, so this was my first birthday without them. I spent a lot of time being wistful and reminiscing, and during the week I\u2019ve realized that what I am remembering about them with the most joy and fondness are the little moments.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/thriving\/files\/2023\/07\/2019-03-01-14-07-49-1200x900-1-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-452\" srcset=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/thriving\/files\/2023\/07\/2019-03-01-14-07-49-1200x900-1-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/thriving\/files\/2023\/07\/2019-03-01-14-07-49-1200x900-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/thriving\/files\/2023\/07\/2019-03-01-14-07-49-1200x900-1-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/thriving\/files\/2023\/07\/2019-03-01-14-07-49-1200x900-1.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This is particularly true when I think about my dad. &nbsp;His quick hugs and pithy advice during rough times helped a lot, usually in less than 30 seconds. His favorite sayings when something had upset me were \u201cThink of it as an adventure!\u201d and \u201cBut can you see the humor in the situation?\u201d My dad wasn\u2019t a farmer, but he worked almost all the time, so those 30-second moments of love meant a lot. They mattered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When we have huge and time-consuming jobs like farming, it can be easy to feel bad about not having more time for family. There\u2019s no time for 2 weeks at the beach, or a trip to Disneyworld, and that can make us feel like we\u2019re not giving enough. We can feel stress, and feel inadequate.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Sea Glass Hermit Crab Mosaic Time Lapse\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/35raUPE69II?start=4&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p>But honestly, it\u2019s the little moments that add up. They matter. Each little memory is a piece of a bigger picture, kind of like a mosaic. Five minutes of playing catch, two minutes listening to a favorite song together, even a 30-second hug.\u00a0 Together they turn into something lovely and unforgettable. Sort of like this.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0So, I\u2019m going to try to not stress out when I don\u2019t have huge chunks of time for those I love.
