This year\u2019s theme is \u201cDependable Insights in Uncertain Times,\u201d which is something we could all definitely use!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Forum will have speakers from industry, from the government, from agricultural advocacy, and from research. It will be a rich and informative time.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"225\" height=\"225\" src=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/thriving\/files\/2025\/09\/uncertain.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1068\" srcset=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/thriving\/files\/2025\/09\/uncertain.jpg 225w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/thriving\/files\/2025\/09\/uncertain-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Georgia Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association has generously given me a table for the event, so if you get a chance, stop by.&nbsp;&nbsp; I\u2019ll have a number of new materials and handouts (plus the ever-present chocolates and squishy \u201cstress bones\u201d).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Monday I\u2019ll also be speaking about taking care of your people and taking care of yourself. One of the best ways to take care of your people\u2014be they employees, colleagues, or family\u2014is to be a good example of what \u201ctaking care of yourself\u201d looks like. This is particularly true when it comes to stress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For those of you who won\u2019t be there, let me cut to the chase and give you my four major take-home messages for the talk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Stress is the enemy of clear thinking and good decisions.<\/strong>\u00a0 Stress makes it harder to remember things, makes your risk assessment skills lower, slows your problem-solving skills\u2014basically messes with all the processes you need to be a smart farmer;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sometimes you can fix a stressor, but <u>always<\/u> you can manage your stress response to keep stress from hurting you.<\/strong>\u00a0 You can\u2019t control the weather, or input costs, or whatever is stressing you out, but you can do simple things to keep your body and mind healthy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sometimes your brain is not your friend.<\/strong> When you are under stress your brain distorts your thinking. Stop and do a reality check if you feel yourself slipping into \u201cit will be awful forever\u201d thinking when you\u2019re under stress; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The best defense is a good offense.<\/strong> To protect against the impact of stress, the best thing is to do healthy things preventively.\u00a0 Remember my post on <a href=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/thriving\/2023\/06\/anna-are-you-a-witch\/\"><strong>SAFER<\/strong><\/a> ?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Get good quality <mark class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\">S<\/mark>leep<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Be <mark class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\">A<\/mark>ware of when you\u2019re getting stressed<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><mark class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\">F<\/mark>ocus on being grateful for the good things in your life<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><mark class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\">E<\/mark>at healthy food and drink lots of water<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><mark class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\">R<\/mark>each out to others for support<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I hope I see lots of you at the Forum so we can talk about thriving on the farm and in life!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Georgia Ag Labor Relations Forum \u00a0\u00a0will be held at the UGA Conference Center in Tifton on September 16-17.
