Remove Stains From Oil-Based Foods

Apparel/Fabrics

Butter, Margarine

  1. Treat garment with pre-wash spot and stain remover. Launder.
  2. Rub detergent into dampened stain. Launder in hot water using chlorine or sodium perborate bleach, if safe for fabric, and plenty of detergent. If stain persists, sponge thoroughly with safe dry-cleaning solvent. Rinse.
  3. Sponge with fabric/upholstery cleaner or waterless hand cleaner. Rinse with water. Air-dry. Apply detergent to stain. Launder.

Cheese

  1. Flush with commercial cleaner.’ Continue as long as any stain is being removed. Allow to dry completely. Sponge with water. Apply a few drops of liquid hand dishwashing detergent and a few drops of ammonia. Keep moist and continue blotting as long as stain is being removed. Flush with water. Be sure to remove all ammonia.
  2. Following directions on label, dampen the stained area with a commercial pre-wash spot and stain remover. Apply a paste of sodium perborate bleach and water to the stain. Wash in warm to hot water, using a heavy-duty liquid detergent.

Cream, Milk, Sour Cream

  1. Following directions on the label, dampen stain with a commercial pre-wash soil and stain remover. Apply a paste of sodium perborate bleach and water to the stain. Wash in warm to hot water, using a heavy-duty liquid detergent.
  2. Sponge with a commercial cleaner.’ Keep applying and blotting as long as the stain is being removed. Rinse. Launder, using a heavy-duty liquid detergent in warm to hot water.

Egg

  1. Never use hot water on an egg stain! It will set it.
  2. Scrape off excess with dull side of a table knife. Soak in cool water with laundry detergent containing enzymes at least 30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly. Let dry. If greasy stain remains, sponge with a commercial cleaner’ or apply a pre-wash soil and stain remover. Launder with detergent.

Ice Cream/non-chocolate

Blot excess while stain is fresh. Sponge with commercial cleaner’ or a pre-wash soil-and-stain remover. Launder. Repeat if necessary. If stain remains, apply a few drops of light-duty liquid detergent and a few drops of ammonia. Blot with absorbent material. Rinse. Soak in sodium perborate bleach for 30 minutes. Launder.

Mayonnaise

  1. Treat stain with a pre-wash spot and stain remover. Launder.
  2. Sponge with commercial cleaner’ or waterless hand cleaner. Rinse with water. Air-dry. Apply detergent to stain. Launder.
  3. Sponge with commercial cleaner.’ Cover stain with pad of absorbent material dampened with commercial cleaner. Let stand as long as stain is being removed. Flush with commercial cleaner. Allow to dry completely. Sponge with water. Apply a few drops of liquid hand dishwashing detergent and a few drops of ammonia. Cover with a pad of material dampened with water and let stand as long as stain is being removed. Flush with water. Soak in 1 quart warm water and 1 tablespoon sodium perborate bleach for 30 minutes. Rinse with water. Wash.

Peanut Butter

1. Scrape off excess with knife. Pretreat with pre-wash soil and stain remover. Launder.

2. Sponge with commercial cleaner. Rinse with water. Air-dry. Apply detergent to stain. Launder.

Soup/Creamed

Sponge with commercial cleaner. * Cover with a pad of absorbent material dampened with commercial cleaner. * Keep moistened and change pad as it picks up stain. Let stand as long as stain is being picked up. Flush with commercial cleaner. * Repeat until no more stain is removed. Allow to dry completely. Sponge with water. Apply a few drops of liquid hand dishwashing detergent and a few drops of ammonia. Cover with absorbent pad dampened with water and let stand as long as stain is being removed. Change pad as it picks up stain and keep stain moistened with liquid hand detergent and ammonia. Flush with water being sure to remove all ammonia. Soak in a solution of 1 quart warm water and 1 tablespoon enzyme product for 30 minutes. Rinse with water. Bleaching with type safe for fabric may remove final traces of stain.

Then apply a Dry Spotter (made by combining 1 part coconut or mineral oil and 8 parts liquid dry-cleaning solvent). Dampen an absorbent pad and apply the Dry Spotter over the stain, keeping the pad moist. Change the pad as it picks up the stain. When all stain is removed, sponge the area using a dry-cleaning solvent. Allow to dry.
  2. If any stain remains, spray the area with a laundry pre-wash product. Cover with a clean cloth that had been dampened in the solution. Let it stand for 10-15 minutes. Add more solution if needed to keep the area warm and damp, but do not allow the wet area to spread. When no more stain is being lifted, flush the area thoroughly with clear water and blot well. Cover the area with an absorbent pad and weight it down, using a heavy object. Let it stand 4-6 hours. Remove pad and objects. Restore pile by vacuuming or running fingers through the pile. Allow the area to thoroughly air dry.

Let it remain in place as long as any stain is being lifted. Change the pad as it picks up the stain. Keep both the pad and stain moist wiht Dry Spotter. Sponge the stain using the dry-cleaning solvent. * Blot with a clean white absorbe, ,t pad. Allow to dry.
  2. If stain persists, sponge the area with water. Make a Wet Spotter by combing 1 part glycerin, 2 part white dishwashing detergent and 8 parts water. Apply the Wet Spotter and a few drops of white vinegar to the stain. Cover the stain with an absorbent pad moistened with Wet Spotter. Let it remain as long as any stain is being removed. Change the pad as it picks up stain. Keep the stain and pad moist with Wet Spotter and vinegar solution. When no more stain remains, sponge the area with clear water and allow to dry.

As soon as possible, spread an absorbent material (such as talcum powder, cornstarch, or Whiting) over the stain. After a short while, brush to remove. Reapply the absorbent powder. Let it stand for 24 hours. To remove, scrub with hot, sudsy (detergent) solution and a stiff. Crush or wipe with a clean cloth dampened with ammonia. Follow either procedure by rinsing and wiping the area dry. 2. When all stain is removed, sponge with a liquid dry-cleaning solvent.’ Blot thoroughly and allow to dry.
  2. Mix 1 teaspoon white dishwashing detergent in 1 cup warm water. Using a medicine dropper or small syringe, apply a few drops directly onto the stain and blot using a clean cloth. Sponge area with a pad dampened in clear water. Blot well again. Allow to dry.
  3. If any stain remains, moisten the stain lightly with a commercial laundry pre-soak product such as Shout or Spray ‘n Wash. Cover the stain with a clean pad that has been dampened with the pre-soak solution. Let it stand for 10 to 15 minutes. Add more solution if needed to keep the area warm and moist, but do not allow the wet area to spread. When no more stain is being lifted, sponge with clear water and allow to dry.

Sponge the stain using the dry-cleaning solvent. Allow to dry.
  2. If stain persists, sponge the area with water. Make a Wet Spotter by combining 1 part glyceri n, 1 part white dishwashing detergent and 8 parts water. Apply the Wet Spotter to the stain. Cover with an absorbent pad moistened with the Wet Spotter. Let it remain as long as any stain is being removed. Change the pad as it picks up stain. Keep the stain and pad moist with Wet Spotter. When no more stain remains, sponge the area with clear water and allow to dry .

Cheese, Cream, Egg, Mayonnaise, Milk, Salad Dressing – Creamed, Sour Cream

Wipe up spill as soon as possible with a cloth or sponge dipped in warm sudsy water. Rinse with clean water and wipe dry.

Paper (Regular Untreated)

Butter, Margarine

  1. Using a dull knife, spoon, spatula or the edge of a plastic credit card, gently scrape to remove the excess soil. Place several layers of paper towels over the oily stain and press with a warm iron until grease is absorbed by towels, being sure to move absorbent material as the oil is being absorbed. It a greasy spot remains, apply a commercial paste spot remover. Brush off after it dries to a powder.
  2. There is a commercial product on the market called Suede-Stone that can be used to remove some types of stains from wallpaper. It works much like an eraser. Usually rubbing is all that is needed to remove grime, dirt and oily stains.

Cheese, Cream, Egg, Mayonnaise, Milk, Salad Dressing – Creamed, Sour Cream

  1. Wipe immediately with a damp cloth or sponge moistened with cool clear water. Overlap strokes to avoid streaking. Use a clean dry cloth and gently pat dry.
  2. Available at hardware and paint stores is a product called Suede-Stone. It works much like an ep’er and rubbing is all that is needed to remove grime, dirt and oily stains from wallpaper.

Peanut Butter, Salad Dressing – Oily

Blot or gently scrape to remove excess soil, taking care not to tear wallpaper. Make a paste of cornstarch and water and apply to the soiled area. After paste dries, brush off. Repeat paste application, if necessary.

  1. Dampen a soft thick cloth with amyl acetate or with a commercial dry-cleaning solvent. * Apply to stain, keeping the pad moist with the solution. Do not leave on stain too long. When all stain is removed, rinse the area with a clean damp cloth and wipe dry.
  2. If any stain remains, mix a poultice of water, 3 percent hydrogen peroxide and powdered Whitir Spread the paste over the stained area, then add a gew drops of non-sudsy ammonia. Cover with a plas, wrap to retard evaporation. Keep on the stain for 10-15 minutes. When stain is gone, rinse well with clear water and wipe dry.

* Look for products containing petroleum distillates or hydrocarbon such as trichloroethane, xylene methylenechloride, methane, benzene and/or naphtha. These chemicals may be found in such spot removers and cleaners as Guardsman’s Afta, Dap Cleaner and Thinner, GOOF OFF, M-1 Remover, Goo Gone, K2r, etc.

Let it stand for 24 hours. To remove, scrub with hot, sudsy (detergent) sol ution and a stiff brush or wipe with a clean cloth dampened with ammonia. Follow either procedure by rinsing and wiping the area dry.
  2. If these alkaline solutions do not remove all the oily stain, try using a solvent. Dampen a soft thick cloth with amyl acetate or with a commercial dry-cleaning solvent.
