Remove Stains From Cologne/Perfume

Apparel/Fabrics

  1. Sponge or soak a stain in cool water. Apply detergent to stain. Launder.
  2. Soak in a solution of 1 quart warm water, 1/2 teaspoon detergent and 1 tablespoon white vinegar for 15 minutes. Rinse with water. If stain remains, sponge with rubbing alcohol, rinse thoroughly and launder. Add bleach (chlorine type). if safe for fabric, to laundry.

Carpet

Blended Fibers, Natural Fibers, Synthetic Fibers, Wool

  1. Blot excess spill, using a folded absorbent cloth or absorbent cloth or paper towels. Sponge the stain with clear, cool water. Spray the stain with a commercial fabric spot cleaner, following directions on the container. This should remove the stain.
  2. If stain remains, make a solution of 1 part glycerin, 1 part white dishwashing detergent and 8 parts water. Apply this solution to the stain sparingly. Then dampen an absorbent pad with the solution and place over stain. From time to time apply pressure, checking to see if stain is being lifted. When all stain is removed, sponge with clear water. Blot thoroughly. Rub hand over carpet (against the nap) to set the pile. Allow to dry.
  3. If stain remains, use a general household cleaner such as 409 or Fantastic. Agitate the stain using a folded absorbent cloth or old toothbrush. Blot thoroughly to remove stain. Then sponge with a mild detergent and water solution. Blot. Rinse with clear water. Blot thoroughly. Rub hand across carpet, against the nap, to set the pile. Allow to dry.
  4. If stain persists, sponge with rubbing alcohol. Cover stain with an absorbent pad dampened with alcohol. Allow to remain until stain is removed. Keep the pad moist with alcohol. Once the stain is gone, flush with water and allow to dry.

CAUTIONS:

  • When using caustic, toxic, aromatic or flammable cleaning solutions, be certain to provide for adequate ventilation. Do not have an open flame near flammable cleaning solutions. Wear rubber gloves.
  • When using solvent-based cleaners on carpet or upholstery, be careful not to overwet the carpet or the fabric. Solvents can destroy the carpet backing and foam padding used in upholstery.
  • Alcohol will damage acetate, triacetate, modacrylics and acrylic fibers. Dilute with 2 parts water on acetate.

Hard Surface Floors

Wood (Oiled, Stained, Varnished, Waxed)

Immediately rub the stain with a little denatured alcohol. Follow this with a liberal application of boiled linseed oil. If the stain persists, leave some oil on the surface for 24 hours, then wipe with a clean, soft cloth and polish or wax as usual.

Furniture

Wood (Exterior, Interior)

Immediately rub the stain with a little denatured alcohol. Follow this with a liberal application of boiled linseed oil. If the stain persists, leave some oil on the surface for 24 hours, then wipe with a clean, soft cloth and polish or wax as usual.

Upholstered Furniture

Blended Fibers, Fiberglass, Natural Fibers, Synthetic Fibers, Wool

  1. Gently blot to remove excess spill. Sponge the stain with clear water. Spray with a commercial fabric spot remover following the directions on the container. Blot thoroughly and allow to dry.
  2. If stain remains, make a solution of 1 part glycerin, 1 part white dishwashing detergent and 8 parts water. Mix thoroughly. Apply a few drops of the solution to the stain and cover with an absorbent cloth dampened with the solution. Allow to remain until stain is removed, keeping stain and pad moist (but not wet) with the solution. Sponge with clear water. Blot thoroughly and allow to dry.
  3. Sponge stain with rubbing alcohol. Blot. Sponge with clear water and allow to dry quickly.

CAUTIONS:

  • Overwetting with water may cause the finish on the upholstery fabric to migrate and thus leave a circle in the treated area.
  • Alcohol will damage acetate, triacetate, modacrylics and acrylic fibers. Dilute with 2 parts water on acetate.

Leather

Gently blot the excess. Mix a solution of a mild soap in lukewarm water. Swish to create a great volume of suds. Apply only the foam with a sponge. Wipe with a clean, dry cloth. If any oil stain remains, rub with a soft, dry cloth. The remainder of the oil may dissipate into the leather. Once stain is gone, apply a leathe,· conditioner such as saddle soap.

Paper (Leather, Suede)

Gently blot the excess. Mix a solution of mild soap in lukewarm water. Swish to create a great volume of suds. Apply only the foam with a sponge. Wipe with a clean, dry cloth. If any oil stain remains, apply a dry-cleaning solvent* to an absorbent cloth and dab the stain very gently. Rub with a soft, dry cloth. Once stain is gone, apply a leather conditioner such as saddle soap.

* Look for products containing petroleum distillates or hydrocarbon such as trichloroethane, xyl methylenechloride, methane, benzene and/or naphtha. These chemicals may be found in such spot removers and cleaners as Guardsman’s Afta, Dap Cleaner and Thinner, GOOF OFF, M-l Remover, Goo Gone, K2r, etc.

These products can be found at hardware stores, discount department stores, and grocery stores.

Paper (Regular Untreated, Plastic Coated, Vinyl)

Cologne often permanently stains wallpaper so treat the stain immediately. Carefully wipe with a sponge dipped in clear, cool water and wrung out until damp. Strokes should be overlapped to prevent streaking. Gently pat dry with a clean cloth.

Wood, Paneling

Immediately rub the stain with a little denatured alcohol. Follow this with a liberal application of boiled linseed oil. If the stain persists, leave some oil on the surface for 24 hours, then wipe with a clean, soft cloth and polish or wax as usual.
