Remove Stains From Cement (Contact, Epoxy, Household, Rubber)

Cement can eventually damage the surface beyond repair. It is imperative that you work promptly.

Apparel/Fabric

Contact

Sponge with a commercial cleaner.

Continue until no more stain is removed. Allow to dry. Apply amyl acetate. Keep moist for 15 minutes. Use a spoon to help loosen the stain. Flush with the commercial cleaner. Bleach may remove the final traces of stain.

Epoxy

This stain cannot be removed.

Household

  1. Place clean absorbent material under the stain. Apply a commercial cleaner and cover stain with a pad of absorbent material dampened with the commercial cleaner. Change the absorbent material as it picks up stain. Continue until stain is removed. Allow to dry.
  2. Sponge with a commercial cleaner. Continue until no more stain is removed. Allow to dry. Apply amyl acetate. Keep moist for 15 minutes. Use a spoon to help loosen the stain. Flush with the commercial cleaner. Bleach may remove the final traces of stain.

Look for products containing petroleum distillates or hydrocarbon such as trichloroethane, xylene, methylenechloride, methane, benzene and/or naphtha. These chemicals may be found in such spot removers and cleaners as Guardsman’s Afta, Dap Cleaner and Thinner, Goof Off, M-1 Remover, Goo Gone, K2r. These products can be found at hardware stores, discount department stores, and grocery stores.

Rubber

Apply ice to harden stain. Scrape off excess. Place stain face down on absorbent paper towels or a clean cloth. Sponge with a commercial cleaner. Change absorbent material as it picks up stain. Let dry. Launder .

Look for products containing petroleum distillates or hydrocarbon such as trichloroethane, xylene, methylenechloride, methane, benzene and/or naphtha. These chemicals may be found in such spot removers and cleaners as Guardsman’s Afta, Dap Cleaner and Thinner, Goof Off, M-1 Remover, Goo Gone, K2r.

Household

Carefully scrape away any excess cement, using the dull edge of a table knife, or the edge of a plastic card. If stain remains, sponge using a commercial carpet cleaner such as Resolve or K2R. Follow directions on the product label.

  • When using caustic, toxic, aromatic or flammable cleaning solutions, be certain to provide for adequate ventilation.
  • Do not have an open flame near flammable cleaning solutions. Wear rubber gloves.

Epoxy

It may not be possible to remove Epoxy Cement from these surfaces. Contact your carpet dealer for help.

Hard Surface Floors

Brick, Concrete, Resilient (Linoleum, Vinyl), Stone/masonry, Tile (Ceramlq, Wood (Painted, Polyurethaned)

Household

Remove any excess before it has a chance to set. Wipe with a cloth dipped in warm sudsy water to which a few drops of amyl acetate has been added. Rinse well and wipe dry.

CAUTIONS:

  • Amyl acetate is poisonous. Do not allow to touch skin. Wear rubber gloves.
  • Be careful any time a commercial product or combination of cleaning supplies are used.
  • Be sure to store and dispose of products/cans/containers as recommended. Keep out of reach of chiIdren.

When using caustic, toxic, aromatic or flammable cleaning solutions, be certain to provide for adequate venti lation. RUBBER Scrape carefully, using the blunt edge of a table knife the edge of a plastic credit card, to remove liquid glue excess. Use a “Rubber-Cement Pick-Up” available at most art or stationery stores to gently rub away any remaining cement. This should remove any trace of the stain.

Furniture

Aluminum, Plastic, Vinyl

Household

Remove any excess matter before it has a chance to set. Try wiping with a cloth dipped in hot sudsy water to which a few drops of amyl acetate has been added. Rinse well and wipe dry.

Household

  1. Carefully scrape away any excess cement, using the dull edge of a table knife, or the edge of a plastic credit card. Using a small syringe or medicine dropper, apply a small amount of a commercial drycleaning solvent to the stain. Blot. Then apply a Dry Spotter (made by combining 1 part coconut or mineral oil and 8 parts liquid dry-cleaning solvent)’ to the stain. Cover with an absorbent pad dampened with the Dry Spotter. Let stand as long as any stain is being removed. Change pads as it picks up stain, keeping stain and pad moist with Dry Spotter. Sponge the area with dry-cleaning solvent. Blot well, removing all excess moisture.
  2. If any stain remains, repeat the above process, using amyl acetate instead of the Dry Spotter solution. Sponge with dry-cleaning solvent. Blot well removing all excess moisture .
