Remove Stains From Candle Wax, Paraffin

Apparel/Fabric

  1. Scrape excess wax from fabric with dull knife. Place stained fabric between white paper towels and press with a warm iron from the back of the fabric to remove the wax. Rotate towel as it picks up stain. Sponge with a commercial cleaner’ or waterless hand cleaner. Rinse with water. Apply detergent to stain. Launder, using hot water and bleach, chlorine type if safe for fabric. If dye stain remains from wax, sponge it with alcohol diluted with 2 parts water. Rinse with water.
  2. Sponge repeatedly with a commercial fabric/upholstery cleaner.* Tamp or use a spoon. Blot occasionally. Continue as long as stain is being removed. Flush with a commercial cleaner.* Allow to dry completely. Sponge with water. Apply diluted hand dishwashing detergent and a few drops of ammonia. Tamp or use spoon. Keep moist and blot occasionally. Continue as long as stain is being removed. Flush with water. Chlorine bleach, if safe for fabric, may remove final traces of stain. Otherwise use sodium perborate bleach.

* Look for products containing petroleum distillates or hydrocarbon such as trichloroethane, xylene, methylenechloride, methane, benzene and/or naphtha.

These chemicals may be found in such spot removers and cleaners as Guardsman’s Afta, Dap Cleaner and Thinner, Goof Off, M-l Remover, Goo Gone, K2r.

Carpet

Blended Fibers, Fur, Hemp, Jute, Natural Fibers, Synthetic Fibers, Wool

  1. Put an ice cube in a plastic bag and place over wax to harden it. Gently scrape off wax from the carpet surface using a metal spatula. Fold several layers of paper towels or absorbent material and place over stain. Press with a warm iron (not hot), moving the blotter materials as wax is absorbed. Sponge final traces of the stain with a commercial dry-cleaning solvent.* Blot and allow to dry.
  2. If a dye remains, dilute 1 part rubbing alcohol with 2 parts water. Apply to the stain in small amounts, using a medicine dropper or a small syringe. Blot thoroughly after each application. Allow to dry. When thoroughly dry, brush area with hand to restore piIe.

* Look for products containing petroleum distillates or hydrocarbon such as trichloroethane, xylene methylenechloride, methane, benzene and/or naphtha.

These chemicals may be found in such spot removers and cleaners as Guardsman’s Afta, Dap Cleaner and Thinner, GOOF OFF, M-l Remover, Goo Gone, K2r, etc.These products can be found at hardware stores, discount department stores, and grocery stores.

CAUTIONS:

  • Do not use Method #2 on acrylic or modacrylic.
  • Always pretest each cleaning agent on an inconspicuous area first to determine colorfastness.
  • When using caustic, toxic, aromatic or flammable cleaning solutions, be certain to provide for adequate ventilation. Do not have an open flame near flammable cleaning solutions. Wear rubber gloves.
  • When using solvent-based cleaners on carpet or upholstery, be careful not to overwet the carpet or the fabric. Solvents can destroy the carpet backing and foam padding used in upholstery.

Hard Surface Floors

Brick, Concrete, Stone/masonry, Tile, Painted Wood

  1. Place an ice cube in a plastic bag and hold against wax to harden it. Very gently scrape away the wax residue from the surface using a dull knife, spoon, spatula or the edge of a plastic credit card. Take care not to scratch the surface.
  2. Wipe with a sponge or soft cloth dipped in a solution of Washing (sal) Soda or detergent and water. (Do not use soap.) Rinse well with a sponge or cloth dipped in clear water. Wipe dry using a soft clean cloth.

  2. Dip a corner of a clean cloth into rubbing alcohol and wipe stain. Wash with a sponge or cloth dipped in clear water. Wipe dry. Polish or wax as usual.

Wood

  2. When all wax has been removed, buff the wood surface with a chamois cloth.

Aluminum, Bamboo, Cane, Cast/wrought Iron, Marble, Permawicker, Plastic, Rattan, Steel, Vinyl

  1. Place an ice cube in a plastic bag and hold against wax to harden it. Very gently scrape away the wax residue from the surface using a dull knife, spoon, spatula or the edge of a plastic credit card. Take care not to scratch the surface.
  2. Wipe with a sponge or soft cloth dipped in a solution of Washing (sal) Soda or detergent and water. (Do not use soap.) If you use the Washing Soda, follow the directions and cautions on the container label. Rinse well with a sponge or cloth dipped in clear water. Wipe dry using a soft clean cloth.

Wood

  2. Wipe with a sponge or 50ft cloth dipped in a solution of Washing (sal) Soda or detergent and water. (Do not use soap.) Rinse well with a sponge or cloth dipped in clear water. Wipe dry using a 50ft clean cloth.

  1. Place an ice cube in a plastic bag and hold against wax to harden it. Very gently scrape away the wax residue from the surface using a dull knife, spoon, spatula or the edge of a plastic credit card. Take care not to scratch the surface.
  2. When all wax has been removed, buff the wood surface with a chamois cloth.

Other/interior

Acrylic Plastic, Alabaster, Ceramic Glass, Enamel, Glass, Grout, Ivory, Jade, Plastic
