{"id":2147,"date":"2026-08-20T09:02:47","date_gmt":"2026-08-20T13:02:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/tattnall\/?p=2147"},"modified":"2026-08-20T09:03:12","modified_gmt":"2026-08-20T13:03:12","slug":"prevent-hot-car-death","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/tattnall\/2026\/08\/prevent-hot-car-death\/","title":{"rendered":"Prevent Hot Car Deaths"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Heatstroke, also known as hyperthermia, is the leading cause of non-crash, vehicle-related deaths for children.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It occurs when the body can\u2019t cool itself quickly enough and the body temperature rises to dangerous levels.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In relation to cars, it happens when a person, or animal, is left alone in a car and as the car warms up, so too does the person or animal inside.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Young children are particularly at risk, since their bodies heat up three to five times faster than an adult\u2019s body.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When a child\u2019s internal temperature gets to 104 degrees, major organs begin to shut down.
