Southeast Pecan Field Day Coming Up! 

The Southeast Georgia Pecan Field Day is coming up soon!  It will be held on Wednesday, August 19th.  It will start at 9:00 am, and end with a catered lunch.  The field day will be held at Parker Brothers Farm, located at 334 Veal Camp Road, outside of Baxley.  This year, the speakers for the meeting include: 

Dr. Lenny Wells, UGA Pecan Specialist, Tifton, GA

Dr. Jim Dutcher, UGA Entomologist, Tifton, GA

Dr. Glen Rains, Agriculture Engineer, Tifton, GA

Dr. Will Hudson, UGA Entomologist, Athens GA

Shane Curry, Appling County Extension Agent, Baxley, GA 

Tentative topics to be discussed include pecan season update, disease control, irrigation, banding zinc, imidacloprid injection and other aphid control methods, sprayer setup and calibration, fruit thinning, insect control, and fertilization.   

Private and commercial pesticide credit will also be available.

 Directions:

From Glennville: Take Hwy 144 for 16 miles and turn right on to Ten mile rd. Travel Ten mile rd. for 12.7 miles and Veal camp rd. will be on the left.

From Reidsville: Take Hwy 121 to Hwy 144. Turn right on to Ten mile rd. Travel Ten mile rd. for 12.7 miles and Veal camp rd. will be on the left.      

 

If you plan on attending, please call the Tattnall Extension Office at 557-6724 by Tuesday, August 18th, so that we can have an accurate count for the lunch.
