Mobile Bull Soundness Examination Day Announcement

The breeding soundness exam (BSE) is much more than a “semen test.” It consists of a physical exam that includes examination of the eyes, feet, legs, teeth, as well as general overall condition.

It is no secret that a good quality bull is essential to the profitable cow-calf operations that are prevalent here in Stephens County. However with the thin profit margins in the cattle business currently, producers simply cannot afford to have open cows in their herd due to sub fertile or unsound bulls. To ensure beef cattle producers here in the county have fertile bulls the Stephens County Extension Office will be holding a Mobile Bull Soundness Examination Day on April 1st, 2020. Examinations will be free of charge with Dr. Brent Credille from the UGA Veterinary Medicine School will performing the examinations. For producers that have adequate facilities (operable head gate) located in Stephens County, examinations may be given on their personal farm at scheduled times. For those without adequate facilities, exams will be held at Eastanollee Livestock Market at scheduled times. Please contact the Stephens County Extension Office at (706) 779-5501 to register. Registration is first come, first serve. The deadline to register is Friday, March 26th. Special thanks to our program sponsor Chestatee/Chattahoochee RC&D Council for the monetary support and Eastanollee Livestock Market for the use of their facilities.
