2014 thrips monitoring locations.
2014 thrips monitoring locations.

The Peanut Entomology Program at UGA is currently monitoring thrips dispersal activity at six locations in south Georgia. Traps are located in Tift, Worth, Mitchell, Decatur, Brooks, and Colquitt Counties; there are four traps at each county location.

The purpose of this monitoring activity is to provide County Agents and peanut growers with real time information about thrips movement. Traps are collected on Wednesday of each week, and data should be posted the following Thursday.

These data are being provided for informational purposes only and may not be representative of thrips dispersal at your location. Peanut fields should be scouted regularly to quantify actual thrips populations.

Thrips Monitoring: Week 5 (April 25)

Please see most recent post for current graph.

Week 5 Summary

  • Low numbers of tobacco thrips have been collected through 25 April at all monitoring locations (less than 2 per trap).
  • Populations of tobacco thrips were observed in wheat fields in Tift County this week, but we cannot predict when these thrips will disperse to alternate hosts.
