One on One Producer Trainings

The University of Georgia is encouraging all ANR agents to meet face to face with all farmers in their county that currently have a Pesticide Applicator’s License. Recently released product labels will now give producers another tool in their arsenal against problem weeds in our crops. However, these technologies may create new challenges if they are used in manners against the labels. Remember: LABELS ARE THE LAW!

All producers wishing to apply auxin herbicides (2,4-D or Dicamba) Pesticides in crop over cotton or soybeans will be required to attend the University of Georgia’s Using Pesticides Wisely Trainings. To further supplement that training, Ag Agents across the state will be doing One-on-One Trainings with producers and their applicators to educate, and hopefully prevent incidents of breach of label applications, drift, and other off target applications.

These One-on-One trainings are an informal session where agents may come to a farm and sit down with farmers along with their pesticide applicators and briefly discuss the importance of managing herbicide resistance in weeds, legal requirements, endangered species, pollinator protection, and finally drift management. This session will help further educate all pesticide applicators, not just the ones that will be using the recently released auxin herbicides. This session also gives applicators one credit hour of recertification towards their private pesticide applicator’s license.
