As a final project for the Georgia 4-H Technology & Communications Team, the Capture Your County 4-H Photo Contest is being coordinated “for 4-H’ers, by 4-H’ers.” This one-time opportunity encourages 4-H youth in grades 4-12 (for the 2020-21 year) to share one photo that best represents their county … from the mountains to city to coastal plain to sea, each county is unique and can be represented in a variety of ways!

  • Each 4-H member may only upload one photo using the Qualtrics submission: https://ugeorgia.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_eEEo28Iaeys5BaK.  The photo should best represent the 4-H’ers home county.
  • County Extension/4-H Offices must register participants in 4-H Event Registration – Capture Your County Photo Contest (dated April 2, 2021).  Georgia 4-H Code of Conduct forms should be on file for each 4-H youth.
  • Identifiers (name, county, etc.) will be removed before being judged.
  • Awards (certificates) will be presented to the first, second, and third place photos in each category listed below.  Certificates will be mailed to County Extension offices.
    • Cloverleaf: 4-6 grades
    • Junior: 7-8 grades
    • Senior: 9-12 grades
  • Photos will be judged using the following criteria (developed by Tech Team member Mimi Montague):
    • What does the image show about the county?
    • What is depicted in the image?
    • What describes the photo?
    • How is the photo composed?
    • What kind of visual representation is there?
    • Is the quality of the photo high?
    • What aspects* of the photo makes it pop?
    • What does the overall picture say about the county?

*Aspects include view point, composition, color balance, contrast, lighting, concept, and perspective.

  • Photos should be uploaded by: July 31, 2021 at 5:00 pm EDT.  Results will be announced on/before August 31, 2021.
  • A promotional flyer created by Tech Team member Emily Pethel has been provided for your use.  Please insert your county due date at the bottom of the flyer.

Please let Jonathan Page (jspage@uga.edu) or me know if you have any questions.

Military Staff Promotion Connection and Ideas:

As installations/Garrison/Forts slowly begin the process of opening up your/their Teen and Youth Centers this is another way to connect to youth who are at home.

Additionally, this could be a great school-age/youth/teen center 4-H activity. Do a lesson on photography (National 4-H photography lesson and resources) and then have the youth take photos either during the club meeting or as a participant follow-up activity.
