The following program is not coordinated through UGA or Georgia 4-H but provides high school teens an opportunity to build their leadership skills through a virtual event this summer. Applications are due March 1st. Please read below to learn more and for promotion considerations.

The mission of 21st Century Leaders is, in short, to develop diverse leaders. Our summer leadership institutes are week-long programs for diverse high school students from across the state of Georgia to develop as leaders through workshops and networking with business professionals, explore careers through panels and talks with employees, and gain skills in social-emotional intelligence, diversity and inclusion, and both personal and professional leadership. We have four institutes (see flyer) – each focuses on a different industry – and students can apply to the institute they most prefer.

  1. Open to students in grades 9-11, anywhere in Georgia (public, private or home school).
  2. The week-long institutes are usually residential on a college campus, but for summer 2021 will take place virtually.
  3. There is no cost for students to attend! Accepted students will also get free access to our online learning program Leadership Connect for the summer and school year.
  4. We’re looking for students who want to learn about leadership and explore careers, regardless of prior leadership experience or academics.
  5. 25% of students say that their experience at the institute was their first time interacting with peers outside of their geographic area.

Information about each institute and the application for new students are online at: https://www.21stcenturyleaders.org/student-programs/summer/
