As we prepare for the school year 2020-2021 and the challenges that we face due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we will make an effort to place a publication order for Friends and Journeys publications/magazines. We realize that back to school approaches and statuses are in flux and are not “business as usual”, but recognize that we all are still preparing for students to return. Georgia 4-H is working to place an order for the below youth magazine. An example, of the book layout, is showcased in the photo gallery of this post.
How could you use these booklets on base for a face-to-face program? The booklets are a great teaching tool and provide a visual aid for youth as well. No PPT, projector, seperate handouts needed when using this tool! Additionally, the tool can be used as a way to highlight the topic post-lesson. Consider having youth complete the book by the next 4-H meeting for a prize.
How can your base use the magazines for a virtual program? Either ship or have families pick up the resource at the base/fort/garrison. This publication is a great tool to include with your “camp in a box” or as a “4-H meeting in a box”. Families can work with their youth to complete the booklet. Staff can lead a related virtual program that uses the magazine as a guide for the youth to follow along with the lesson. The benefit of the mgazines is that youth can learn new things without a technology device if they so choose, which can be very refreshing.
Georgia 4-H has several additions of the 4-H Friends and Journey magazines. Topics include water, nutrition, summer camp, introduction to 4-H, Project Achievement, zoonosis, and more! Due to limited funds, this year bulk order is being arranged for the following editions Introduction to 4-H, 4-H Project Achievement, and Summer Camp; however, if you are interested in a different booklet let us know.
Base staff should email laurwalt@uga.edu to place an order by July 22 (to be apart of the bulk order). Be prepared to share quantity, topic, the staff name for shipping, contact details for shipment receiver, and shipping address and physical address.
