ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Georgia 4-H program is soliciting applications for three military teen camps through May 1.

Military teen camps during summer 2019 are open to 14 to 18 year old dependents of active-duty, reserve, guard and retiree families from any branch of service regardless of where they live.

“For over ten years, camps hosted by the University of Georgia have equipped military dependents to develop new social networks and gain valuable life-skills in a fun, exciting environment,” said Casey Mull, extension specialist for military programs.

Three announced camps include one at Wahsega 4-H Center June 16-21, and two camps which travel through the state parks of Florida June 10-21 and July 15-26. Interested youth complete an application with demographic information and respond to several short answer and essay questions designed to prepare them for the college application process.  Applications must be completed online by May 1 at 11:59 p.m. EDT.

Those accepted to attend camp are responsible for the transportation to their closest major airport.  Airfare, lodging, programming and meals during the camp are funded through a partnership funded by the Department of Defense between the Office of Military Family and Community Policy and the USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture through a grant/cooperative agreement with Purdue University.

The University of Georgia has hosted camps funded by the Air Force Services Activity, exclusively for Air Force-connected dependents in previous years. The University of Georgia currently does not have a contract for these camps.  When more information is available, the Georgia 4-H will share this information with interested families.
