Military youth live all across our state even if there is no military installation in the county. Military youth are represented by parents serving in the guard, reserve, active duty, wounded warrior, or they could have a parent who has recently retired from the military. Whether the youth has a parent or stepparent currently or previously serving in the military the youth are impacted by the service. We can help connect military teens through camps.

Purdue University Extension manages a grant that serves military teens from all military branches. The grant oversees camps that take place in Maine, Colorado, Florida, and Georgia.  The University of Georgia, Georgia 4-H is fortunate to manage 3 camps through this partnership. Teens 14 to 18 are eligible to attend any of the camps funded through the grant. Do you have youth in your program that are eligible to attend?  Camp programming ranges from whitewater rafting, kayaking, zip lining, hiking, sailing, problem-solving, team building, swimming, marine wildlife, camping, and more!

Applications for several of the camps are open or will open soon. We encourage you to promote these camping opportunities to your teens at your military installation base, 4-H programs, and through your connections with your local community. Help us promote so we can reach more military teens in 2019.

When promoting the camps you can share the following link: https://ag.purdue.edu/extension/adventurecamps/Pages/camps-by-location.aspx

The above link provides details about the camps, how to register, camp flyers, and who to contact if you have any questions.

Also, please note that there other grant-funded camps for military teens available. We are highlighting Purdue University Extensions partnership with the Department of Defense and USDA in this particular post. If you have questions about other camping opportunities available in 2019 feel free to reach out to a staff member.
