In my search for lesson plans for leadership I came across an awesome website that I thought would be useful for military base staff, teachers, and county 4-H staff. I would not have expected this site to have lesson plans, but to my surprise it had countless lessons and the site even divided the lessons by age group. What website is it? It is the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation website: https://themedalofhonor.com/.

I encourage you to spend 10-15 minutes browsing the site as I am sure you too will be able to pull some useful lessons for your programs. I downloaded several lessons ranging from leadership to building a strong character for high school teens. It is also interesting to see how they tie the lessons back to the military and/or to a Medal of Honor recipient.

When or how could you use these types of lessons? The lessons are perfect for a leadership camp whether it is a one day or a week long program. For example, I can see using resources from this site at one of our 2019 Teen Leadership Summits. Also, for individuals who have a leadership team you might consider pulling a lesson to use at your yearly onboarding training or as a refresher course. While, the lessons are themed around military they do not have to be used to promote military programming nor be used strictly with a military audience as the lessons are to develop strong character in any individual. Further, the lessons are perfect for Veterans Days, Memorial Day, Martian Luther King Day, and for a themed afterschool/in school program on leadership or character development.

Sometimes it is fun and needed to develop a specific program that directly fits your teens; however, this can be time consuming and overwhelming. Often, we are stretched thin with little time to plan our own lessons. It is nice to have a couple lessons in your back pocket to pull from and I believe the Medal of Honor Foundation does a great job of providing that resource. I hope you enjoy this resource as much as I did.
