Rose Rosette Disease Updates on biology, management, and breeding for resistance
<\/strong>Red, bunched-up new growth. Canes packed with soft thorns. A witches\u2019 broom where a healthy Knock Out used to be. That\u2019s rose rosette disease, and once a rose has it, the plant can\u2019t be treated or cured (UGA Extension Circular 1176<\/a>). On Tuesday, November 17, the researchers working on each piece of the problem will walk through it in one morning: the tiny eriophyid mite that spreads the virus, the virus itself, and the breeding work aimed at roses that hold up to it. Speakers come from UGA Entomology, UGA Plant Pathology, and Texas A&M, where Dr. Oscar Riera-Lizarazu holds the Basye Endowed Chair in Rose Genetics. It\u2019s all on Zoom.
