We don&#8217;t claim to be economic development authorities, but we do know that gardens and landscaping can have profound economic impacts, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>higher property values<\/li><li>faster home sales<\/li><li>reduced crime<\/li><li>increased sales for businesses<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Some samples of projects that fall under this initiative are included in this table from the <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.uga.edu\/content\/dam\/extension\/programs-and-services\/master-gardener\/documents\/VolunteerHandbookFINAL2018.pdf\">Volunteerism Guide<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"710\" height=\"254\" src=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/mgevp\/files\/2020\/02\/Trellis_state-init-value-of-landscapes.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2083\" srcset=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/mgevp\/files\/2020\/02\/Trellis_state-init-value-of-landscapes.png 710w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/mgevp\/files\/2020\/02\/Trellis_state-init-value-of-landscapes-300x107.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 710px) 100vw, 710px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Our projects endeavor to create appreciation of and recognition for plants and the tended landscape. Many MGEV hours are reported in this area, as we shared <a href=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/mgevp\/2020\/02\/georgias-five-initiatives-for-mgev-projects\/\">in an earlier Trellis post<\/a>.  When we are educating others about the Value of Landscapes, it looks like this: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>partnering with Habitat for Humanity to teach new homeowners how to select, install, and care for their new landscapes<\/li><li>guiding the renovation process for community landscaped spaces by teaching about plant selection and care<\/li><li>organizing a plant show and encouraging novice and experienced plantspeople to display their accomplishments<\/li><li>mentoring community groups, adult and youth, to plant and tend tree plantings and public garden spaces<\/li><li>leading garden tours with strong education components<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<p><!--StartFragment--><\/p>\n<p><!--EndFragment--><\/p>\n\n\n<p>When we extend this education through our projects and activities, we can expect results! In time, we&#8217;ll observe communities where landscapes are treasured and public garden space is plentiful.
