Resources for GA MGEVs

“Since 1974, National Volunteer Week has been an opportunity to recognize the impact of volunteer service and the power of volunteers to tackle society’s greatest challenges, to build stronger communities and be a force that transforms the world. It takes place every April during Global Volunteer Month.

Each year, we shine a light on the people and causes that inspire us to serve, recognizing and thanking volunteers who lend their time, talent and voice to make a difference in their communities.” #NVW -text from https://www.pointsoflight.org/national-volunteer-week/

Since 1979, Georgia Master Gardener Extension Volunteers (MGEVs) have been part of the initiative to serve Georgia communities through education and outreach programming focused on plants and gardening. The Master Gardener Program is operated through county offices of the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension and volunteers are active in many counties throughout the state. So, for 47 years now, UGA Extension personnel who work closely with these volunteers have been involved in the impact that MGEVs have in the garden, the classroom, at a market, in the Extension office, and so much more!

During National Volunteer Week, we will take the opportunity to shine a light on significant work MEGVs do by sharing some stories from county Extension coordinators. Their work is valued each and every day, and we are grateful for the opportunity to take a moment to say an extra thank you!
