We’re talkin’ trees because Arbor Day is this month – on the 21st (Check out our previous blog post for easy celebration ideas). Do you know why we celebrate Arbor Day on this particular date in Georgia? December through the end of February is the best time to plant trees in Georgia. Dr. Jason Gordon from UGA’s Warnell School of Forestry & Natural Resources discussed this last week, as we kicked off our 2020 Thoughtful Thursday webinar series with Jason and 70+ GA MGEVs. A few notes from the session:
- The #1 problem Dr. Gordon has observed is trees not planted in the right place.
- Dr. Gordon has a database for trees of the Southeast. Ask your Extension Agent to contact him so information can be shared with your county.
- CanVis Photorealistic Visualization is a free software that can be used to help clients visualize what new planting of trees or shrubs will look like in the landscape. Learn more here.
