{"id":45,"date":"2020-02-25T13:22:28","date_gmt":"2020-02-25T18:22:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/madison\/?p=45"},"modified":"2020-02-25T13:24:40","modified_gmt":"2020-02-25T18:24:40","slug":"madison-county-cloverleaf-4-hers-excel-at-district-project-achievement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/madison\/2020\/02\/madison-county-cloverleaf-4-hers-excel-at-district-project-achievement\/","title":{"rendered":"Madison County cloverleaf 4-Hers excel at District Project Achievement"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Nineteen youth participated\nin the annual Cloverleaf District Project Achievement, Saturday at&nbsp;the\nRock Eagle 4-H center, with many winning a first, second or third-place and\nhonorable mentions.&nbsp; The Madison County delegation\n\u2014 part of the 456 competitors at the competition \u2014 won 5 blue ribbon\nmedallions, four red ribbon medallions, three white ribbon medallions and seven\nhonorable mentions.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/madison\/files\/2020\/02\/MC-4h-Cloverleaf-DPA-2020.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-46\" width=\"343\" height=\"257\" srcset=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/madison\/files\/2020\/02\/MC-4h-Cloverleaf-DPA-2020.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/madison\/files\/2020\/02\/MC-4h-Cloverleaf-DPA-2020-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/madison\/files\/2020\/02\/MC-4h-Cloverleaf-DPA-2020-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 343px) 100vw, 343px\" \/><figcaption>Madison County cloverleaf 4-Hers at DPA<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are thrilled at the\nwork the 4-H&#8217;ers put into their projects to bring home to Madison County their\nmedallions,\u201d said Susan Goldman, County Extension 4-H Agent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Project Achievement is an\nannual competition that teaches young people public speaking, research and\npresentation skills by having them select a topic of interest from more than 60\ndifferent project areas and prepare a six-minute demonstration, including\nvisuals like three or four posters, to present at the contest. The most popular\ncategories in the competition this year were: Sports\n\u2013 Team (21), Marine &amp; Coastal Ecology (18), Wildlife (18), Dog Care and\nTraining (17), Health (16), and Historic People (16).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis competition provides\nyouth with an opportunity to research and present a speech on a topic that\ninterests them,\u201d Goldman said.&nbsp;\u201cLearning public speaking at a young age\ngives each young person confidence in their abilities.&nbsp;Plus, learning this\nskill will help them with future presentations in school and eventually the\nworkplace.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deborah Wofford, 4-H\nProgram Assistant,&nbsp; was pleased with how\nwell Madison County Cloverleafs \u2014 the name given to 4-H\u2019ers who are in the\nfourth, fifth and sixth grades \u2014 did on their presentations at one of their\nlargest competitions of the year. \u201cI am very proud of the work that each 4-H&#8217;er put\ninto their projects,\u201d she said. \u201cPublic speaking can be very intimidating, and\nthey all did a great job.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Winning first place\nmedallions for 2020 were C.A. Duncan, Between-Meal Snacks, Hull \/ Sanford\nElementary: Maggie Moon, Fruits, Vegetables &amp; Nuts, Comer Elementary;\nMallory Lee, Sheep and Meat Goats, Comer Elementary; Bella Grace Hambrick,\nMarine and Coastal Ecology, Danielsville Elementary; and Abbigail Parham, Cat\nCare, Madison County Middle School.&nbsp;\nSecond place finishers were:&nbsp; Douglas\nRay, Health, Ila Elementary; Ben Darwin, Environmental Science, Madison County\nMiddle School; Mallory Lasseter, Dog Care and Training, Danielsville\nElementary; &nbsp;and Brantley Burgess, Fresh\nWater Fish &amp; Shellfish, Danielville Elementary.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taking home third place\nawards included:&nbsp; Sofia McCannon, Fruits,\nVegetables and Nuts, Ila Elementary; &nbsp;and\nA\u2019Moni Gantt, Companion and Specialty Animals, Comer Elementary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Named as Honorable Mentions\nwere:&nbsp; Matthew Morris, Sports \u2013 Team, Ila\nElementary; Samantha Carey, Sports \u2013 Team, Ila Elementary; Rosley Wagner,\nInternational, Colbert Elementary, Abby Lynne Hardiman, Ila Elementary,\nInternational Project, Andrew Ray, General Recreation, Ila Elementary, and\nKarleigh Gilliam, Health, Colbert Elementary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A group of teen leaders,\nmade up of Sa\u2019Lee Evans, Alyssa Goldman, Jarrett Lasseter, and Elise Sparks\nhelped show students to their project areas.&nbsp;\nJ.T. Painter and Kaylie Goldman also served in this role and assisted\nwith Northeast District Roles.&nbsp; Parker\nVarnadoe helped with planning and conducting the day, giving out awards, and\npresenting a devotional and singing songs at the awards ceremony. &nbsp;Madison County Extension Staff Members in\nattendance included: Carole Knight, County Extension Coordinator and ANR agent,\nSusan Goldman, and Deborah Wofford.&nbsp;\nBobbi Kesler served as the bus driver for this event.&nbsp; \u201cTeen and adult leaders are very important,\u201d\nCarole Knight said.&nbsp;\u201cThey help each student find their room and cheer them\non.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One 4-H competitor remarked, \u201cThis\nwas the first year that I tried it, and I liked it,\u201d he said. \u201cI learned to\nlike speaking in front of people. I like the competition and being with other\npeople.
