Throughout the month of March, 8 students from McClelland Elementary School and Long County Middle School competed in the Southeast District Project Achievement Contest. Congratulations to the follow students who researched a topic, wrote a speech and presented their information through a video that was submitted along with 264 other video submissions in the Southeast District: Melanie Abellera, Kinsley Alderman, Trinity Holston, McKynzie Matchett, Kaydence Seidel, Mackenzie Spurgeon, Bryce Tookes and Dirk Walker.
Out of the 8 video submissions Long County had, 5 of the students placed in the District Competition. Melanie Abellera placed 3rd in the category of Dog Care & Training. Kinsley Alderman placed 2nd in the Marine Ecology category. Trinity Holston also placed 2nd in the Environmental Science category. We had 2 1st place winners which went to Dirk Walker in the Engineering and Mechanics category and McKynzie Matchett in the Wildlife category. These students ranged from 4th – 6th grade with the 4th and 5th graders being graded together in each category and the 6th graders having their own separate places/ranking.
“All of these students did an excellent job and deserve more than just a pat on the back or a round of applause. It is a difficult time that these students are in so the fact that they went out of their way to do something extra and optional speaks volumes to their work ethic and character,” says Shelby Mumma, 4-H Educator.
A pre-recorded awards ceremony took place on Thursday, April 1st at 4pm. The video is now available to view at any time on the Georgia 4-H Youtube Channel. It is titled ‘Georgia 4-H Southeast District Cloverleaf Project Achievement 2021’. Along with District ribbons that will be awarded to the top placing students, Long County 4-H will also be recognizing each individual for the time and effort they put into their posters and presentations. On Friday, April 23rd the students attending McClelland Elementary School who participated in the Cloverleaf Project Achievement will have their name announced during the morning announcements. They will be able to come down to the lobby and receive their certificate along with a gift bag and get pictures taken. Long County 4-H and MES Staff are excited to honor these students’ efforts in creating wonderful projects.
