Web Soil Survey

Are you interested in a free soil mapping software? Have you ever thought how mapping could help with land management? Have a pond on your property, but don’t know how many acres it is? Planning on cutting a tract of timber, but would like to know approximately how many acres? These are just a few things that Web Soil Survey can help you with.

Web Soil Survey is a free mapping software that was developed by the United States Department of Agriculture. Not only is it free, but it can provide you with a suite of information including soil type, properties, and quality, to suitabilities and limitations for use, to even ecological site assessments. If you would like to learn more about this software, the Jones County Extension Office has a couple of training dates available for you. The first training will be on April 16 from 6 to 8 pm. The second training will be on April 17 from 9 to 11 am. Please pick the date that works for you.

To register or for further questions, please call the Jones County Extension Office at 478-986-3958.
