Every day, nearly 100 agricultural workers suffer a lost-work-time accident. Fortunately, most farm injuries and fatalities are preventable if proper safety practices are followed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the biggest dangers on a farm is misuse of heavy machinery. Always be alert and take precautions when using heavy equipment. Never adjust equipment that is still running.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rollover of a tractor is a serious threat, so be sure to always wear your seatbelt, never allow extra riders on your tractor and do not dismount a tractor while it is still running.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If possible, when you are driving farm equipment on a county road, use a pilot vehicle to alert motorists and prevent accidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Safety practices are not limited to the farm. Power tools, mowers and chemicals used in lawns and gardens can pose serious dangers if not handled properly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure to wear proper clothing and protective wear (ex: long-pants, closed-toe shoes, ear plugs, glasses) when using this equipment.
