Dr. Eric P. Prostko is a Professor/Extension Weed Specialist in the Department of Crop & Soil Sciences. He is responsible for the statewide Extension weed science programs in various row crops including peanut, field corn, grain sorghum, soybean, sunflower, and canola. He has been with UGA since 1999. Dr. Prostko earned his degrees from Delaware Valley University (BS), Rutgers University (MS) and Texas A&M University (PhD).
As a former county Extension agent, Dr. Prostko is extremely committed to the land-grant mission and views UGA Extension agents as his first client/#1 priority. Eric’s Extension program focuses on timely responses to agent/grower inquiries, a weed science blog, and his regular popular press column which appears in the Southeast Farm Press (Tailgate Talk). During his career, he has delivered more than 1000 educational presentations at county crop production meetings, Extension agent trainings, and industry sponsored meetings.
Eric has been married to the former Joann M. Carroll for 33 years and together they have 3 children (Nicholas, Shelby, and Isabelle), 1 son-in law (Marquis), and 1 daughter-in-law (Cameron). In his spare time, Eric enjoys reading, music, piano, physical fitness, shooting sports, and working around his small hobby farm (pecans and pine trees).
