At Clarke Middle School, AmeriCorps School Garden VISTA, Julia Calder has been able to obtain a handful of volunteers who participate simply for the enjoyment that it brings them and others.
Their weekly, bi-weekly, monthly commitment to our school garden program has been consistent, and a much appreciated, assistance. Their flexibility in scheduling and lack of moaning and groaning about weeding is a cherry on top!
Getting plugged in with a local cause or movement is beneficial to the individual. In addition to the good deeds done by the volunteer, an individual can gain friendships, knowledge, empathy and expertise. Those who donate their time at Clarke Middle School may learn the basics of composting, animal husbandry and plant care.
Occasionally a volunteer is able to bring home a bit of produce. Sharing locally-grown produce is one way the VISTAs promote healthy futures and sustainability. Involving UGA students and community members is a key way to BUILD community.
Seasons Greetings from all of us VISTAs and our Furry Families! Thanks to all of our passionate volunteers, faculty and staff!
