{"id":101,"date":"2012-07-17T18:04:17","date_gmt":"2012-07-17T22:04:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ugagreenway.wordpress.com\/?p=101"},"modified":"2023-01-03T15:29:17","modified_gmt":"2023-01-03T20:29:17","slug":"ecovillage-at-currumbin-part-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/greenway\/2012\/07\/17\/ecovillage-at-currumbin-part-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Ecovillage at Currumbin &#8211; Part 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The community that resides in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theecovillage.com.au\/\">the Ecovillage at Currumbin<\/a> has already developed some traditions of their own-<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/greenway\/files\/2012\/07\/ecovillage-play-area-with-moms-and-kids.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-103 alignleft\" title=\"Ecovillage Play Area with Moms and Kids\" src=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/greenway\/files\/2012\/07\/ecovillage-play-area-with-moms-and-kids.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\"><\/a>One such tradition applies to new life in the community: When a baby is born the community pulls together in support and&nbsp;brings dinner for the new family every night. This beautiful practice exemplifies the support and connectivity that is being fostered in this Ecovillage.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/greenway\/files\/2012\/07\/ecovillage-toy-storage-e1342470125300.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-102\" title=\"Ecovillage Toy Storage\" src=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/greenway\/files\/2012\/07\/ecovillage-toy-storage-e1342470125300.jpg?w=252\" alt=\"\" width=\"252\" height=\"300\"><\/a>They also have a toy share&nbsp;program, and communally store large outdoor toys in the old dairy barn, which has&nbsp;been transformed into part of the Community Center. The Community Center houses the&nbsp;community kitchen, meeting and celebration room, playground- with sand&nbsp;and water play area, and a swimming pool!<\/p>\n<p>Their are bike and tryke path&nbsp;runs throughout the community and the commons link (what we would call&nbsp;the backyards) and the children run from one section to the other, as&nbsp;do the Kangaroos.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/greenway\/files\/2012\/07\/ecovillage-house11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-111\" title=\"Ecovillage House1\" src=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/greenway\/files\/2012\/07\/ecovillage-house11.jpg?w=199\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\"><\/a>I asked about crime and safety during my visit to the Ecovillage at Currumbin, and they said that&nbsp;they have had a couple of break-ins, but those were people from&nbsp;outside the neighborhood, and that they generally experience very little trouble, and no trouble at all with the community residents. It is important to note that this is not a gated community and&nbsp;the greater community is welcome to use the commons and nature areas.<\/p>\n<p>I feel that this is a very safe area. It&#8217;s fairly diverse and its residents feature a wide age range.
