A website from UGA Cooperative Extension

It’s time for the annual Christmas in July Back to School event, and Santa needs some 4-H elves to get ready for the event.  We need volunteers for Christmas in July to sort school supplies and clothes, set up for the main event, and help box and clean up after the event.

Christmas in July is an event held by churches and retired educators to provide 100 families (must be nominated by a community agency) with items they need to prepare them for school, such as school supplies, first aid kits, shoes, clothing, cleaning supplies, personal hygiene products and books. Children also got to visit Santa Claus during ‘Christmas.’ The purpose is to give children a better start to school, and 4-H always enjoys being a part of such a great community event.

4-H’ers are needed:

  • Thursday, July 19 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (sorting of school supplies, clothes, and food)
  • Friday, July 20 from 7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (setting up of event)
  • Monday, July 23 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. (box up leftover items and clean up from the event)

Pick-up and drop-off of 4-H’ers will be at the 4-H office.  On Thursday and Friday, we will take a lunch break, so you will need to bring money for fast food or bring a packed lunch.  We may also be making deliveries of other donated items to local agencies.  Space on the mini-bus is limited, so we need to know if you are planning on coming. Please comment on this post or call or email Ms. Becky at the 4-H office (706-629-8685 or bpass@uga.edu) to sign up for the event.
