SlowExposures

SlowExposures is a well-established photography show in Pike County that has been running for 16 years. The 2019 show will be the 17th year! The show attracts about 500-600 attendees from all over the U.S. every year. In addition, the SlowExposures show won the Governor’s Award for the Arts in 2016. They are  a fantastic group of people to work with that are passionate about art, education, and community.

Are you an aspiring young photographer–or, know of one who is interested in exhibiting their work? Check out the  2019 SlowExposures Young Photographers Show to be held in conjunction with the 17th annual photography festival that celebrates the rural American South. The YP theme is “The Rural South“. Educator and Artist Dr. Dan Dunnahoo of Zebulon, Georgia will again serve our YP judge–and be joined by a second juror. Enter by uploading two digital images by the deadline of June 2nd. The jurying process is blind–our jurors will pick 25 photos for each division based on the work itself without identifying information. They will award first, second, and third places and cash awards for each of three age divisions. In addition, there will be a Best in Show award that will qualify the winner to work with Dr. Dunnahoo on a project of their choice! The show will hang at the R.F. Strickland Center from September 19-22nd with a Reception for the photographers on Sunday, September 22nd. Every year, it’s a fitting conclusion to the show to honor these photographers of the future!

Students from across Georgia (public, private or homeschooled) are encouraged to submit up to two digital photos by visiting the SlowExposures website at www.slowexposures.org . Once there, they can upload the images. There are three divisions: K-5, 6-8, and 9-12. Students should enter the division in which they are enrolled in January, 2019. The juried-in images will be printed and matted by the Young Photographers Committee and presented during 2019 SlowExposures. The deadline for entering is midnight, June 2, 2019.
