It is once again time for the Watermelon Growing Contest sponsored by the Georgia Fruits and Vegetables Growers Association and the Georgia Watermelon Association. This contest offers 4-H’ers a chance to learn skills of farm management, along with initiative, self-reliance, and preparation skills. We are happy to announce this competition is now open, and 4-H’ers are encouraged to begin preparing to grow their best and biggest watermelons.

This contest is open to all 4-H’ers, kindergarten through 12th grade.

We have free Carolina Cross watermelon seeds at the Gordon County 4-H Office for anyone who wants to come get some and plant their own watermelon. Register for the watermelon growing contest at this link. Final weights will be due in July, but register now to receive free seeds and receive information about entering your watermelon in the contest later this year. Deadline to register is this Friday, April 1 so that we have time to order the seeds.
