The goal of the Georgia 4-H Ambassador Program is to prepare 4-H’ers to become knowledgeable in a specific content area so that they can return to their counties and share what they’ve learned with others. This summer, we’re training 4-H’ers to be STEM or Healthy Living Ambassadors!  If you’re interested, you must apply!

The deadline to apply is 5:00 PM on May 1, 2019.

Selections will be announced by May 8.

ELIGIBILITY

Please note that only rising 9th through rising 12th graders may apply to be Ambassadors.  [In other words, you will have completed grade 8, 9, 10, or 11 by the end of this current school year (2018-19)].  Those who are currently in 12th grade and will graduate from high school this year are not eligible for the 4-H Ambassador Program, as it will carry over beyond their regular 4-H eligibility in most cases.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Interested youth must apply to be a 4-H Ambassador.  The 4-H Ambassador Program requires a one year commitment that begins upon completion of Ambassador Training. After returning home, 4-H Ambassadors are expected to participate in and report on learning and sharing activities which they plan and deliver in their communities in the coming year. Ambassadors will be required to attend all Ambassador training sessions, commit to one year of service, create and fulfill learning and sharing plans, provide quarterly reports, and be recognized during State Council in 2020. Georgia 4-H Ambassadors must commit to completing the following activities during their year of service:

  • Attend all sessions of the 4-H Ambassador Training, held immediately following Senior Camp.  Ambassador training will occur on Friday, May 31 – Saturday, June 1.
  • Complete 6 learning activities related to their subject area.
  • Complete 6 sharing activities related to their subject area.
  • Complete quarterly reports on their activities.

DEADLINE

Interested 4-H’ers must complete the online application form by Wednesday, May 1 to be considered for selection.  All tracks have limited spots available.  Again, the deadline to apply is May 1, 2019.  County offices will be notified which applicants have been selected for 4-H Ambassador Training by the end of Wednesday, May 8.

TRAINING INFO  [Friday, May 31-Saturday, June 1]

The Georgia 4-H Ambassador Program will be offered this year immediately following Senior Camp, Friday & Saturday, May 31-June 1. 4-H’ers who attend senior camp will be allowed to remain at Rock Eagle at the end of camp and will be provided supervision and lunch until the Ambassador Training begins.  4-H Ambassadors who are NOT registered senior campers will need to arrive at Rock Eagle and check-in by 12 PM on Friday, May 31.  Lunch will be provided to all Ambassadors on Friday.  Training will end at 4 PM on Saturday, June 1.  All Ambassadors should make arrangements for transportation home and plan to be picked-up by a trusted adult between 4-4:30 PM on Saturday.

COST

The fee for Ambassador Training is $73.  However, both tracks being offered this summer — STEM and Healthy Living — are supported by grant funding.  So, the program fees will be entirely grant-funded.  Woo Hoo!  Ambassadors are still responsible for making arrangements for transportation to and from the training at Rock Eagle.

See below for further details and any track-specific eligibility requirements.

4-H Healthy Living Ambassadors

This track will focus on nutrition and physical activity. Youth will participate in interactive sessions to learn more about nutrition and healthy living (including USDA’s Dietary Guidelines for Americans and MyPlate), strategies for working with youth, and ways to connect with their communities to promote healthy habits. Making creative healthy snacks and meals, participating in fun exercises and games, and riding the smoothie bike will be some of the activities involved in training. The cost of the training will be covered by the Healthy Habits Grant, sponsored by The Walmart Foundation. To qualify, you must meet the criteria listed below:

  • Be a rising 9th through rising 12th grader [In other words, you will have completed grade 8, 9, 10, or 11 by the end of this current school year (2018-19)].
  • Be involved in a county that currently has a Healthy Habits grant with Georgia 4-H or that plans to apply for a Healthy Habits grant in the next program year, if available. Talk to your county leader to find out if your county is involved.
  • While counties that currently have or are planning to apply for a Healthy Habits grant are given preference, you can STILL apply even if your county does not meet this criteria. Just speak with your county 4-H leader/contact to make sure that they are willing to serve as a contact to assist with reporting related to the grant.

4-H STEM Ambassadors

Through the generous support of Georgia Power, up to 24 4-H’ers will selected as STEM Ambassadors for the 2019-2020 program year. Those 24 individuals will have their registration fees entirely funded by the Georgia Power grant. STEM Ambassadors will be empowered to effectively teach concepts related to engineering, environmental science, and/or physical/biological/earth science in their local communities. To qualify, you must meet the criteria listed below:

  • Be a rising 9th through rising 12th grader [In other words, you will have completed grade 8, 9, 10, or 11 by the end of this current school year (2018-19)].
  • Be passionate about sharing the wonders of science, design, technology, innovation, engineering, artistry, mathematics, and more with others in your local communities and around the state!
